Monterey Street

San Luis Obispo, CA

This project involved renovation of a facility that was built in the 1930s. The ownership was passed down through the generations and has been rented as a garden furniture and accessories store. When the property became vacant, the decision was made to update the premises and lease to smaller entities. The property was built on the natural course of a natural spring and drainage needed to be controlled through the site to a city storm drain in the street. As the selected architects, we set out to keep the important elements of the property and bring others up to date. We chose new storefront windows for better climate control, new precast cladding for a fresh look in certain areas, metal awnings for sun control, membrane roof to replace the old leaking roof and a fresh color scheme. The majority of the project was leased before being complete.
